COVID-19: Nigeria records over a thousand in less than 2 months

 

Nigeria has recorded over one thousand cases of COVID-19 in less than two months, it will be recorded that on 27th February 2020, the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehinare announced the index case for COVID-19 in Nigeria, being an Italian businessman who broke down to the virus upon arrival in Nigeria.

Since the index case was announced, the nation has continued to record cases on daily basis, a situation that expert has described as dangerous. The rate of spread of the virus forced the government of Nigeria to announce a total lockdown in some states and the FCT as a means of containing the spread. Not satisfied with the results, the Nigeria Governors forum met earlier in the week and approved a national lockdown of two weeks as a strategy to curb the community spread of the virus which has threatened the already weak health infrastructure in Nigeria.

As at press time on on 25th April, Nigeria recorded a total of 1095 cases, with 114 new, 208 discharge cases and 32 death. Coronavirus has ravaged the Europe with almost a thousand daily mortality and overwhelmed health infrastructure and professionals
