Kogi Governor ordered visiting NCDC officials/his DG Protocol to go for 14 days isolation at Kogi centre and their blood samples taken for test for violating NCDC rule on handshake
The Kogi State Governor, Alh Yahaya Bello has ordered the visiting officials of the National Centre for Disease control and the Director of Protocols in Kogi Government House to go on isolation at one of the Kogi State isolation Centers and their blood samples taken for test to ascertain their status, for violating the NCDC order of handshake and close contact.
The Governor stated this while receiving the delegation of the visiting National Centre for Disease control who are in the state to ascertain and review the activities against COVID-19 in Kogi State, being one of the two states that are yet to record any case in Nigeria. There have been accusations of cover up against Kogi State government on COVID-19 especially in the social media, the government of Kogi State has continued to insist that, following the NCDC guidelines and symptoms for testing COVID-19, the state has no case yet. The Kogi State government has severaly accused fifth columnist of attempting to blackmail the state to discover a non existent case, the state however vowed that no one will use the state to play COVID-19 politics and the state will continue to ensure to follow the world health organisation and NCDC guidelines to ensure Kogi does not record any case.
The argument generated by this has turned political with known opposition in the state taking a position against the state government. A few days ago there was heightened media accusations fuelled by a yet to be identified Fikayo who says he is an investigative journalist, Mr Fisayo had raised alarm of four different cases of coronavirus recorded at the Federal medical centre, Lokoja, his statement claims that the authorities in the state suppressed information about it. In a well articulated press release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr SakaHaruna Audu, he gave convincing account of how impossible it us for the state to cover up any existent case. Dr Audu says Kogi has been managing Lassa fever and has always reported every mortality cases in line with best practices, hence wondered why the state should hide such an information.
While the visiting NCDC officials arrived Kogi, the Governor says they must be submitted for same best practices on COVID-19 in Kogi. He noted that his Director General for Protocol who had handshakes and close contact with the officials against best practices will be made to go for fourteen days isolation and their blood samples be taken for test to confirm that they are COVID-19 free before they can be allowed to begin their official assignment
