The Kogi State chapter Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN Comrade Alonge Femi Israel has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Independence Anniversary.
The youth leader said the celebration of the country’s democratic rule is “Not Undeserving”.
In a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary Comr. Jacob Abraham, Comrade Israel said the journey so far has availed the country opportunity to choose its own leaders without fear of intimidation.
“At a time like this, there is need for us to access how far we have gone as a country especially in areas such as security of lives and property, disbursement of the dividends of democracy to the common Nigerian on the streets of the country, religious and political tolerance, even distribution of the nation’s wealth.
“It is glaring that while as a country we are making efforts to forge ahead, we cannot deny the obvious fact that a lot of factors ranging from relative insecurity threats and unequal political participation and sadly religious intolerance has been militating against the easy sail of the country to the land of no regrets” he said.
While charging Nigerians not to be discouraged in celebrating the country’s freedom for which heroes past laid down their lives, he urged a character renewal that will move the country forward.
“As a country fondly addressed as the giant of Africa, we are expected to lead by example; leading positively in political, economic, religious and social and security standard wise.”
“Today should be a day of deep national sobber reflection from our political, economic and religious leaders who ordinarily are supposed to lead us right but on the contrary are leading us the other way round. It is supposed to be a time for we as country men and women to do some fact finding analysis on how far we have come and to also know if we are making progress or not.
“It is highly encouraging to know that amidst all of the challenges that has and is still confronting the progress of our country, we are still strong and filled with optimisms that our country will surely be great” he concluded.
