Kogi Speaker congratulates Nigerians on Democracy Day, extols MKO Abiola’s sacrifices

The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole has congratulated the people of the State and Nigerians for witnessing the first ever Democracy Day being celebrated on the 12th day of June. 

The lawmaker said the June 12 celebration reflects on what he called the most credible and transparent Election in Nigeria which took place in 1993.

Rt. Hon. Kolawole in a release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi, added that the recognition and designation of June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria by the current administration shows that there is hope for the country, maintaining that the sacrifices of the late Chief MKO Abiola for the country to have a nation that can truly works is not in vain.

According to the Speaker, Nigerians don’t need to entertain any fear in the ability of the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari to move the nation forward as the foundation being laid is in the right direction.

He said every citizen has a role to play in the quest for a better country, urging each and everyone to be ready to play his or her part in making the dreams of our forefathers come true.

According to him, the security situation in the country is becoming worrisome hence the need for all hands must be on deck to tackle the menace headlong by providing information to the security agencies and exposing those with criminal tendencies within our neighborhood.

He said despite the challenges facing the nation and the Covid-19 pandemic, the current administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, there have been appreciable achievements in major sectors of the economy like Agriculture, infrastructure development, fight against corruption, health, education, youth engagement, support for the vulnerables and elderly etc.

He said the Kogi State House of Assembly under his watch will continue to collaborate with other arms of Governments to make good laws that will promote good governance for the state, urging Kogites to continue to support and rally round Governor Yahaya Bello administration in moving the state to an enviable height.

He said Covid-19 pandemic is real hence he urged citizens to continue to stay safe by observing WHO, NCDC and Ministry of Health guide lines in handling the pandemic by regular washing of hands, promotion of personal hygiene, use of hand sanitizer, social distancing and wearing of facemasks to curtail the spread of covid-19 in the country.
