Kwara APC Chairman salutes indigenes, Nigerians on Democracy Day

As the country marks 21 years unbroken democratic rule today, the Kwara state Chairman of APC, Hon. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa has felicitated with all Kwarans and Nigerians for the journey so far.

He desecibed as a watershed the institution of June 12 as the country’s Democracy Day by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

“The June 12, 1993 election adjudged as the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s political history was won by Chief MKO Abiola” he said in a statement he personally endorsed on Friday.

He also added, “I therefore congratulate kwarans on this joyous and epochal occasion as the long and uninterrupted run of democratic governance we currently enjoy is the result of the toil and sweat of yesterday’s martyrs. We salute their sacrifices.

“As we savour the sweetness of it, l urge our leaders to continue to reckon that democratic rule is a sacred social contract between the government and the governed. Policies and programmes of government must therefore reflect the wishes and aspirations of the people. They must consciously and constantly be aware that power belongs to the people and is only held in trust for the people. They must therefore be accountable at all times to the people.

“Please accept my hearty felicitations on behalf of our party on this auspicious occasion.”
