The primary election of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo State began Monday as scheduled and recorded a peaceful turnout as collation of votes has commenced in some local government headquarters.
At the voting centres, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies were seen observing proceedings from a distance.
From the areas monitored, the exercise commenced as early as 8 am with simultaneous accreditation and voting at the same time.
Card carrying members of the party were seen in batches of 15 and 18 casting their votes
In some wards and local government areas monitored, which included Ohuan, Uhi and Isi North/Uhunmwonde, Ward 3/Egor and Ward 9/Oredo, among others, members of the party were seen displaying their party cards before casting their votes
During the exercise, party members came wearing face masks and and at the same time maintained physical distance as they waited patiently to cast their votes for the aspirant of their choice namely, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Dr Pius Odubu and Mr Osaro Obazee.
The total votes for each of the aspirants in the unit were then recorded on the prescribed forms for onward transmission to the ward collation centres where they were also recorded.
From their, votes were taken to the local government collation centres where the sorting of votes for each of the three aspirants has started with the result sheets from the wards, as at the time of filing this report.
