National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Kogi state chapter has expressed grief over the death of Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot.
Arotile died from head injuries she sustained from a road accident at NAF base in Kaduna on Tuesday 14th, July 2020.
The council in a statement issued on Tuesday by the chairman, Comrade Israel Alonge described Arotile’s death as heartbreaking and painful.
The statement read, “Kogi State suffers a great loss as The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) announce the death of Tolulope Arotile who died as a result of head injuries sustained from a road accident at its base in Kaduna on Tuesday 14th, July 2020.
“The late flying officer, barely 23 who hails from Iffe in Ijimu local government area of Kogi State was commissioned into NAF in 2017 as a member of Nigeria Defense Academy Regular Course 64 as the first ever female combat helicopter pilot in the service”.
Mr. Alonge added, “She was one of the youths of Kogi State. It is a great loss. I cannot put in words what the people of Ijimu LG must be going through at this dark time. She was a pride and role model to not only the youths of Kogi State but the whole nation. We lost her at her prime. We pray that God lay her to eternal rest and comfort her family”.
He urges the youth of Kogi State to live each day with a step closer to actualizing their dreams as tomorrow is not promised.
