The federal High Court in Katsina has convicted 12 persons for evading the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) clearance and migrated to Nigeria Republic enrout Europe.
The convicted persons between the ages of 18-35 were received by the Nigeria Immigration Service following their repatriation from Niger Republic through Kongolam Control Post in Katsina State.
Our correspondent gathered that this figure is part of the total number of 42 persons who were received from Nigerien authorities.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Immigration Service, James Sunday he stated that the remaining 30 persons will be arraigned upon the completion of investigation.
The presiding judge Justice Hadiza Shagari sentenced the accused persons to three months imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine.
While insisting that the remaining 30 persons will be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to intending offenders, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede advised travellers to always submit themselves for proper check before embarking on overseas journey.
