- Says it is a covenant made that is being kept
The Kogi State government on Tuesday flagged of a project to light up Kogi Eastern Senatorial District as part of its efforts to drive rural development.
Gov. Yahaya Bello who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Momodu Ozigi said it is a convenant made that is now being kept by the present administration.
In a statement issued in Lokoja by the S.A media to the Hon. Commissioner, MLGCA, Rufai Enero Sule, the Project Light Up Kogi East will include the upgrading of Itobe Bridge Cable by crossing, 150mm x 1 Core Cable to 300mm x Core cable.
“The 300mm cable can carry 45 MW load at maximum while the entire load of Kogi east currently stand at 25MW. It may interest you to know that the existing cable has loading capacity of 14.5 MW this obvious reason was responsible for the load shedding in Idah and Anyigba axis. With this development, there will be no more load shedding in Kogi East as it relate to cable capacity limitation” the governor assured.
The upgrade of the bridge cable he explained would enable all the nine local government areas of Kogi East to receive supply at same time without overloading.
Gov. Bello said the Project Light Up Kogi East would also include the rehabilitation of weak existing power supply infrastructure in the nine local government areas of Kogi East.
The Project he added would include rehabilitation of existing main lines from TCN Ajaokuta, rehabilitation of weak existing distribution substations, and weak existing High Tension and Low Tension overhead lines.
He further stated that the project Light Up Kogi East would include the reinforcement of the electricity infrastructure in Kogi East, which would include installation of distribution substations in 24 towns and villages, construction of High Tension and Low Tension Lines.
The Governor disclosed that the project has September as targeted month of completion and that the efforts to light Up Kogi East is aimed at alleviating the sufferings faced by the people and in improving the Socio-economic development of the people of the district.
