Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Political Matter, Omoluabi Olabode Adeyemi has congratulated the Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi on his victory at the Appeal court.
The Abuja Division of the Court on Tuesday dismissed the appeal filed by former senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, challenging the victory of, Senator Smart Adeyemi, at the November 2019 by-election.
In a congratulatory message personally endorsed by Omoluabi and made available to SGTV, he said Sen. Adeyemi’s victory did not come to him as a surprise, adding that his victory at the 2019 election was crystal clear.
According to Omoluabi, what the Appeal court did was a re-affirmation of the people’s mandate which had earlier been affirmed by the petition tribunal.
“Sen. Smart Adeyemi’s acceptance in Kogi West and in the entire state cuts across party line. Kogites who have allegiance to other political groups hold him in a high esteem and willingly decided to change the narratives when they gave him their mandate.
“Our people were fed up with the comedy of error the Senatorial District was subjected prior to the coming of Sen. Adeyemi. They took a stand and decided to end it.
“His victory at the polls was massive and crystal clear even to the blind. For the first time in a long period, people of other political parties pitched their tent with our leader to liberate our district from jesters.
“I am happy that my brother Sen. Dino Melaye decided to try his luck at the court. It would go down the history that he suffered a tripod defeat from the polls to the Appeal Court.
“I will however appeal to him to join forces with Sen. Adeyemi who by providence and the massive mandate of Kogi West people is our representative at the Red Chamber in the development of our district and state in general” he said.
Omoluabi further extolled the people-oriented initiatives Sen. Adeyemi has brought on board since he took over office.
The Justice Ibrahim Saulawa-led three-man bench, in its judgment on the appeal, affirmed the June 10, 2020 judgment of the Kogi State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, Abuja, upholding Adeyemi’s election.
The panel, before dismissing the appeal, unanimously resolved all the seven issues considered in the case against the appellants – Melaye and his party, the People’s Democratic Party.
It also awarded the cost of N50,000 against the appellants and in favour of the respondents.
