Gov. Yahaya Bello champion of women emancipation, Ambassador of affirmative action — SSA Political

Senior Special Assistant to Kogi Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Political Matters, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi has congratulated his principal, Gov. Bello for his support and encouragement to the women members of the All Progressives Congress by resolving to nominate women as vice chairmanship candidates for the upcoming local government election in the state.

Omoluabi says the development, as well as the consideration of 35 percent of women as councillorship candidates for various wards in the state is historic in the inclusion of women in the country’s political participation.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lokoja, the governor’s aide said His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello has demonstrated his commitment to actualising the Beijing 35 percent affirmative action.

He said, “His Excellency governor Yahaya Bello has shown that his administration is at the forefront of promoting a level playing field for women to participate actively in our country’s political firmament.

“At a time when the global community has exhibited a firm resilience towards fostering a balance between men and women, Governor Yahaya Bello has walked the talk by creating a conducive atmosphere for women representation.

“As the only state Chief Executive in Nigeria who has a woman as his Aide De Camp (ADC), the governor has shown that he is a firm believer that what a man can do, a woman can do better.

“By practically taking the lead in enforcement of 35 percent women affirmative action, the governor has written his name in gold as a shinning democrat.

“Democratic governance cannot be said to be in its full swing in an environment where the female gender is not visibly represented. The governor has not only proved himself as a doyen of emancipation of the women folk but has provided a roadmap for other states across the Federation to follow.

“The onus lies on the women to justify this gesture by exhibiting a brilliant performance upon election. Like never before in the history of our state, Kogi is poised to setting the pace in women inclusion and indeed in all other developmental indices” he said.

He expressed optimism that the state will reap the immense benefits women have, urging other states to take a cue from the state.
