The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has commended Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN for professionalism and objectivity in reportage of events.
The NBC Zonal Director, Abuja, Mrs Pauline Ehusani who have the commendation while addressing members of management of FRCN at HarmonyFm, Idofian, during a familiarization tour of FM stations in Kwara State also charged them to continue to uphold the values of professional broadcasting.
Mrs Ehusani who affirmed that Radio Nigeria remains a professional reference point for upcoming and existing radio stations in the country, urged the corporation not to rest on its oars in promoting the diverse views and cultures across board.
On the coverage of the recent EndSARS protest in the country, the NBC Zonal Director frowned at the unprofessional handling of some news items by some broadcast stations, and advised them to first consider the peace of the country before rushing to break news.
She further reinstated the commission’s readiness to continue to offer training and retraining of media personnel for excellent practice, stressing that erring stations should also be ready to bear the consequences of their actions when they contravene the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
In a remark, the General Manager of Radio Nigeria, HarmonyFm, Alhaji Olanrewaju Adegboyega assured the visiting team that FRCN, the flagship of broadcasting in Nigeria will continue to adhere to its objective of uplifting the people and uniting the nation through quality and balanced reportage.
Alhaji Adegboyega also thanked the NBC for being unrelenting in providing guidance and support for broadcast stations in the country.
An addendum of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code was presented to Radio Nigeria, HarmonyFm by the NBC Zonal Director, Mrs Ehusani.
