Fear of COVID-19 widespread envelopes Abuja residents, with gridlock at all entrances of Abuja, as gov’t relaxes restrictions order
There is palpable fear of COVID-19 widespread in Abuja as gridlocked greets all entrances to the capital city on the first day of relax in movement restrictions since COVID-19 case was discovered in Nigeria.
Sgtv correspondent reveal that residents of all the suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory troops out to the ever busy Kubwa, Airport and Mararaba expressways. It was gathered that uncontrollable gridlock envelopes the Kubwa expressway axis of the road.
The challenge however is the way residents disobey the social distancing order and use of face mask to curb the spread of COVID-19. While interviewed, Aaron Agway, Abuja based Lawyer says he is particularly worried of what the outcome of the free movement will portend to spread of the virus. Agway says the movement allowed will make the spread of the pandemic easily done and its effect will be devastating.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had during his national broadcast stated that partial reopening of the system would begin on Monday 4th May. The Presidential declaration sparked sharply divided national opinion, despite the conditions given, those who believe it was a good decision have taken to the streets, though with very high risk factors yet they are not deterred.
Several national opinion moulder and stakeholders have attributed the scourge to ill preparedness of government and weak economic standing of the nation.
