The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to honour Chief Moshood Abiola, the winner of the acclaimed June 12, 1993 presidential election by renaming the National Stadium Abuja after him.
The Minister said this during his welcome address at the first anniversary of the renaming and the unveiling of the Moshood Abiola National stadium in Abuja.
According to the minister, President Muhammadu Buhari has through this demonstrated vision and mission of giving recognition to worthy citizens who have distinguished themselves in service of the country while encouraging the younger generation to join him in building a strongand indivisible nation.
While also describing the late MKO Abiola as a great Pan Africanist and a great lover and promoter of sports, Minister noted that MKO Abiola invested his time and resources in sports development particularly football.
The President at the occasion was represented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Mallam Musa Bello as the Special Guest of Honour at the event while Kola Abiola son of the late Moshood Abiola represented the family.
Other dignitaries at the occasion were the Minister of Trade and Investment Adeniyi Adebayo, Minister of State for Labour and Productivity Barr. Festus Keyamo and Director General NYSC Brigadier General Ibrahim Shuaibu.
Others are General Secretary of the NFF Doctor Sanusi Muhammed, Chairman League Management Company Alhaji Shehu Dikko among others.
