The Kogi state government has commenced the fumigation of schools ahead of resumption.
This is even as the government warns school proprietors to ensure a total compliance as a means of reducing the spread of coronavirus or risk sanctions.
The commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Wemi Jones stated this at the commencement of fumigation of schools in Lokoja.
Mr Jones said the failure of any school to comply with the protocols would amount to endangering the lives of the owner, students and staff, noting that such schools would be punished following a report from government monitoring team.
The commissioner said the state was ready for the resumption of schools for exit classes, hence the commencement of the fumigation to disinfect school environment as part of measures to avoid endangering the lives students and staff and assured that no school would be left out of the exercise.
He further urged parents to observe protocols specified by NCDC for safety of their wards.
The commissioner for Environment, Mr Victor Omofaiye promised the support of the ministry to ensure the success of the fumigation and other measures put in place for safe school resumption and maintain COVID-19 free-status.
Also speaking, chairman, Kogi state House of Assembly Committee on Education, Idoko Moses ododo said that the House would join hands with the governor to enable him successfully execute all programmes lined up in the interest of the state.
Schools fumigated were Crowther Memorial College, Bishop Delisle school and Holy Trinity/UBE school, all in Lokoja.
