COVID-19: FG’s palliative Rice not consumable, Akwa Ibom Governor, NAFDAC certified them before distribution, Minister of Humanitarian affairs

The Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Udom Emmanuel has alleged that the one hundred and eighty bags of COVID-19 palliative rice donated to the state by the Federal Government is not consumable and may have been contaminated.
Governor Udom Emmanuel says upon discovery of the fact, he ordered that the Rice be kept in the warehouse for test by relevant government agencies. He says it would have to be well exermined before any grain is distributed to the people.

Meanwhile the Minister for humanitarian affairs, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq has declared that the Federal Government ensured that the Rice was made to go through certification process by National Agency for Food and Drug administration and control (NAFDAC) before the eventual distribution to states. She therefore insist that none of the items were inedible. Hajia Sadiya also says her ministry read in the news how South West Governors were purported to have rejected the Rice on same ground, but she insisted that no such thing happened except for Oyo state where the ministry is making ways to change the affected numbers.

Hajia Sadiya says it is very unfortunate and worrisome that certain individuals will peddle fake news just to discredit the brilliant efforts of the Federal Government, She said while she heard the fake news, She made a call straight to the Governor of Ekiti and Chairman Nigeria Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi who denied any of such allegations, She says she’s however surprised that such a fabrication could go on during this time of global crisis where all efforts should be geared towards improved welfare of the masses and fight against COVID-19, our common enemies.
