FOREIGN: We are not COVID-19 positive, we are stranded here, Nigerians in UK begs FG for evacuation,

The stranded Nigerians resident in the UK, have expressed concern and disappointment by government failure to evacuate them from UK due to the global pandemic.

They have also accused the federal government of breach of their constitutional rights in abandoning her citizens in another country during a pandemic ravaging the globe no matter what the case maybe.

The spokesperson for the group, Olajoke Adesipe said virtually all of them were tested negative for coronavirus after been examined. She therefore plead to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, to immediately come to their rescue as a matter of urgency.

“The way Federal Government closes her airports knowingly that Nigerians stranded in other country is contrary to section14 (2) (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” She said.

They plead that government should address them and tell them the actual date the government is coming to evacuate them, that the government should let them know the airline that shall be airlifting and the cost of the flight ticket that individual will be said to pay.

“Since all of us are now confirmed Negative for coronavirus, when we land in Nigeria our prestigious abode we shall avail ourselves for another test to ascertain our status so that the country at large will will not be panicking and we shall stay 14days isolation in our houses. Therefore, We’re very ready to sign any written agreement to this effect.

“If it is compulsory for us to be quarantine by the NCDC , we shall advice they use NYSC orientation camps since those testing centres are not free for now because all state in Nigeria own its camp.

“As many of us presently have the money that is required of us to pay for our accommodation during our stay at the various isolation centres in the country,” as the unanimously agreed.

They request to know when stranded residents Nigerians living in UK will be evacuated from the foreign land, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye, has ordered our reporter to ask from the National Emergency Management Agency.

A representative of NEMA, who appealed anonymity, was saying the agency are in charge of evacuating Nigerians residing foreign lands. “This precise evacuation is an important one because it involves a pandemic which affects the globe.

“The exact duty allotted to NEMA at the juncture is just to arrange airlines which shall be going to evacuate the Nigerians residing abroad.
