Kogi University Staff Laud Gov. Bello For Appointing Dr. Usman Ag. Rector of State Polytechnic

Staff of the Department of Political Science, Kogi State University, Anyigba, have commended the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, on the appointment of their former Head of Department, Dr. S.O. Usman, as Acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic.

The Staff who were led by the current Head of Department, Dr S.S. Avidime, on a courtesy visit to the Acting Rector on Thursday 4th May, 2020 said the appointment of Dr Usman and that of the current Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University, Professor M.S. Tenuche from the same Department, was a mark of the recognition accorded the Department by the Governor of the State.

They noted that, based on his records as Head of Department, they had strong confidence in the ability of the Acting Rector to deliver on his current assignment.

In a release signed by the Head, Public Relations and Protocols of Kogi State Polytechnic, Uredo Omale (Mrs) the visiting Political Science Department staff pledged their support to the success of his administration and urged him to be all-inclusive in his decision making so as to leave a lasting positive legacy in the Polytechnic.

They also urged staff of the Polytechnic to be alive to their responsibilities at all times, stressing that such would be the only sure way they could cope with the workaholic disposition of the Acting Rector.

They seized the opportunity to appeal to the Acting Rector to continue to provide moral, administrative and material support for the Department.

The Department, as a mark of solidarity, presented a gift of roll-up banner to the Acting Rector.

In their remarks, the Principal Officers of the Polytechnic who spoke in turn gave credence to the administrative prowess of Dr S.O. Usman, stressing that it was no longer business as usual since his assumption of duty as Acting Rector.

They described the Acting Rector as a leader who has demonstrated great sense of direction and determination to succeed, in spite of the obvious challenges confronting the institution.

They therefore requested for the prayer and support of all and sundry to make his administration a success.

In his response, the Acting Rector, Dr S.O. Usman, appreciated the Head and entire staff of the Political Science Department for the visit, gift, support and encouragement.

He also appreciated His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for appointing Professor M.S. Tenuche and himself from the same Department to head two higher institutions in the State.

He pledged to be a worthy ambassador of the Department by striving to break new ground in the areas of academic, infrastructural development and entrepreneurship in the Polytechnic.

He also promised to provide academic support to the Department by way of postgraduate teaching and supervision.

He pointed to his records in Kogi State University and attributed it to sacrifice and commitment, stressing that he was never detered by side comments.

He advised staff of the Political Science Department to show exemplary conduct as all eyes would be on them as the Department of the Vice Chancellor.

He enumerated the steps he had taken to move the Polytechnic forward, which he said include regulations on production and sales of textbooks to avoid exploitation of students, reposting of staff in Bursary and Registry Departments, restoration of internet access on campus and upgrading of the clinic from a 3-bed to a 30-bed facility.

He also stressed that efforts were in top gear to ensure the completion of the stalled student hostel projects within two months through partnership with Zenith Bank.

Other development efforts as explained by the Acting Rector include the ongoing erection of security office at the gate of the Polytechnic through the use of expertise of staff from relevant departments and donations from some contractors, the beautification of the Polytechnic gate, amongst others.
