Kogi women journalists advocate stiffer sanctions against rapists

The umbrella body of women journalists in the country, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) Kogi State chapter has called for sever sanctions against identified rapists in the country. 

The chairperson of the chapter, Mrs Ann Olurinde made this call in a statement at the weekend.

According to Mrs. Olurinde, if stiffer sanctions are meted to convicted sexual offenders, it would help in putting on check what she described as ugly trend that has become a social problem in the country.

While expressing concerns over the development, she emphasized that women and children who are mostly affected are left in psychological trauma.

She urged the society to say no to rape and other forms of violence against women and children.

Mrs Olurinde called on government at all levels, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to champion against a rape to ensure the foundamental rights of women and children are well protected.
